Heyylloo Blogger World! This most might seem a bit out of line, but I feel like someone had to talk about it. If you don't know, I am obsessed with dolls and other such girly toys. So you'll see a post on that occasionally. Doll collecting and Doll photography as well Doll related arts, is a very niche hobby. Thus, many do not know of it. Regardless, I love the doll community and we have all shared our ups and downs together with the recent new doll lines being released by Mattel.
Mattel is the epitome of everything dolls, as we know it. They own Barbie, Monster High, and Ever After High. They are the powerhouse of the toy industry for girls. It has been a year or so, since a new line has been released by them. This line happens to be the DC Superhero Girls. Mattel had landed a licensing deal last October, to bring our favorite comic book heroines to life. DC girls are bringing forth a huge change in the doll industry.

They have opened up the door to the creation of less "feminine" dolls. In an age like today, where feminism is rampant, these dolls have become a highlight of the doll shelves in toy stores. Hollywood has been spilling out movie after movie for superheros as of late, which is helping these dolls sell. These dolls have done what no other fashion doll had been able to. And that is creating a doll with a muscular build. These dolls were created to resemble athletic body types. They have thick calves and reasonable proportions. This is revolutionary for younger girls, who have never been into the pink washed Barbie dolls, or the overtly glamorous Monster High dolls. Many parents have cited in reviews of these dolls, that these dolls have helped bring their daughters and sons together in playtime.

While the DC girls are crushing gender roles and empowering young girls, lets get into the quality inspection of these dolls! For any doll collector or parent interested, this is my uncensored review of these dolls. I am going to review the signature first wave dolls of the line, since they are the ones I have. Personally, I do not like any of the dolls after the first wave, since Mattel is cheaping out on them. But, Mattel's recent financial struggles are a different matter for a different time.
So here we go, a review of some of the first wave Dc Superhero Girls:
Harley Quinn:
- Harley Quinn was a major favorite last year, as the whole Harley Quinn trend hit social media. She was actually my first DC girl as well. Harley is 12 inches tall, like all of the dolls in the line. She has platinum blonde hair, with her signature blue and red streak. Her outfit comprises of a diamond print shirt, blue shorts, black mask, belt, platform creeper style shoes, and painted on legs to resemble tights.
- Pros: She is fully articulated, and her arms and hands are removable. Her hands are well made and she can hold the mallet she comes with. Her joints are a lot more sturdier than a Monster High or Ever After High. She can stand on her own, and is even pose-able at the torso. She is well made and heavy duty. She has her signature smile painted on and her outfit is durable. Her hair is soft and well rooted. She also resembles her character well.
-Cons: Her legs are painted on, so if you change her clothes her legs would look weird. This is why I usually put her in full length pants, when I switch her outfits. I wish they had made the legs in tights and not painted them on. It was a cheap way for them to save money. Mattel has been cutting edges on a lot of their doll lines as of late, because of their struggling sales, but again that is a different issue. Her hair holds the pigtail shape when you try to change her hairstyle. I just used my hair straightener on her and it did the job!
Wonder Woman
- Wonder Woman is this year's favorite character, thanks to the movie. She is my most favorite doll out of the line. She has subtle tan skin, blue and black streaked hair, a red one piece suit with blue pants over it, huge red boots, her golden crown and shoulder plates. She even comes with her lasso of truth.
-Pros: She is beautiful! Out of all of the dolls, she is the most attractive one. Her tanned skin is gorgeous in contrast with her blue eyes and black hair. She has a very sweet face. Her hair is by far the best out of all of the dolls. It is soft and sleek straight. Her joints, outfit, and accessories are durable as well. All of the dolls have the same joints and bodies.
-Cons: I am going to be honest. I have no cons for her. She has no molded on or painted on parts, no edges were cut in her production. Soooo...... well moving on!
Bat Girl
- Batgirl adorns a cute purple hoodie with bat ears, black tight fit pants, yellow boots, a mask, a backpack with bat wings, and has painted on black gloved hands. She even has a yellow tool belt. She has thick brows, and bright red hair. Her eyes are green and she has a sweet expression.
-Pros: Batgirl has the best accessories out of all of them. A cool backpack with bat wings! Her hoodie is cool too. She is durable like all of them, and I personally love her boots. They can easily be used on her with casual outfits as well! She has all the joints and her clothes are durable as well.
-Cons: Batgirl has the worst hair out of the dolls. Its a bit rough and frizzy, so I just have her hair in a braid. Its the best it can be that way. The bat ears on her hoodie flop down and don't really stay up. Her black gloved hands are painted on. Which sucks if you wanted to swap her outfit and put her in a Barbie dress, because then she would have awkward black painted hands. Her painted hands don't fit well with anything but her original costume, which is a let down.
Super Girl

- Supergirl is an icon and an all time classic. This doll adorns a one piece blue and red dress, a red plastic cape attached to a necklace on her dress, she has blue and red wrist cuffs, high top red wedge sneakers and cute white socks. Her blonde hair has a blue headband, and she has big blue eyes.
-Pros: Her is the nicest hair after Wonder Woman. She has all the joints and is durable. Her outfit is simple and the skirt makes it more easier to put her in action positions. She has simple accessories that won't matter if you lose them in the long run. She can easily adapt to a casual look and if you change her clothes, she can take on the role of an "athletic Barbie." There is a lot of versatility to this doll. And her socks are real! No paint on!
-Cons: The plastic cape isn't that great, a fabric cape would have been better. The plastic cape is just too short and looks like something out of a Mcdonald's happy meal. Her eyes are a bit wide, making them look wonky, which is why this doll should be picked out in person and not ordered online. I used a black pen to thicken her lash line, and that made my doll's eyes look normal.
Well that wraps up this doll review! DC Superhero Girls are a refreshing change in the doll market, but Mattel has slacked off after the first wave. I suggest just getting the signature releases! This post has ran on long enough, so on an ending note....I think this doll line is worth it, if you only buy the signature characters! The second or third wave dolls are of less quality and don't have any exemplary change in fashion or look.
Happy collecting!
-ISBAH xoxo
